Throwback Tuesday: Guy – ‘Piece Of My Love’

By

Scandalously classic! Lol.

Being that New Jack Swing father Teddy Riley recently announced the reunion of GUY it was only right that we offer a “Piece of Our Love” this morning!

GUY is R&B group most closely associated with the New Jack Swing style of the late ’80s and early ’90s. “Piece of My Love” was a single off their 1988 double platinum, self-titled album GUY. The single talks about not being able to be in a committed relationship or a monogamous one but suggest that they should indulge in the moment as they sing, “You can have a piece of my love.”

GUY was formed in Harlem, New York in 1987 by Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall, and Timmy Gatling.  However, Gatling had left after recording of the album was completed and he was replaced by Hall’s younger brother Damion Hall. Guy have reformed periodically since their initial break-up, the first of which occurred in 1995, with the release of the song “Tell Me What You Like,” but an album did not follow at that time. In 1999, Riley and the Hall brothers reunited to release their first album in nine years titled Guy III.

In 2013 the group reunited for a short time and split again, but as of this week Teddy took to his Instagram to announce that GUY had in fact reunited again and would be going on tour. Enjoy the classic above!
