Ne-Yo continues to express that he is returning to R&B with his upcoming album Non-Fiction, which is now due in early 2015. Sitting down with AOL’s The Boombox for a recent interview, the platinum hitmaker shared more details about the new LP, his tumultuous love life and the new artists he sees having strong futures.
Ne-Yo revealed there is an interlude on the album, which was originally going to be a full song, but it was too painful to complete, about admitting to the infidelity that ended his engagement to Monyetta Shaw, who is the mother of his two children.
He spoke about another song that he is very excited about, which is titled “Run,” produced by Salaam Remi. It features Schoolboy Q, who he is a big fan of, and centers on the predatory nature of the opposite sex.
“It’s a song that’s kinda talking about that chick who takes pride in breaking up relationships,” Ne-Yo said. “She’s walking, talking, living, breathing temptation. It’s not a typical Ne-Yo song. When you hear this record from the beat to the way that I’m singing, everything about this song is a little different than what you’re used to hearing from me.”
In addition to his admiration for Schoolboy Q, Ne-Yo had some kind words to say about Ty Dolla $ign. “Ty Dolla $ign is a lot more musically inclined than he lets on. That dude will get on them keys and do something incredible in front of you,” he said. Ne-Yo is also a fan of the music August Alsina and Tinashe are putting out.
