By

Now, this is that feel good throwback R&B! Remember when R&B used to make you feel good through vocals, live instrumentation, and lyrics?!

The Gap Band was a R&B and funk band which rose to fame during the 1970s and 1980s. Composed of brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson, the band first formed as the Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band in 1967, in their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The group shortened their name to The Gap Band in 1973. After 43 years together, they retired in 2010. However Uncle Charlie Wilson continues to tour as a solo act.

“Yearning for Your Love” was the third release off the band’s fifth album, the 1981 The Gap Band III. The song rose to No. 5 on the Hot Soul Singles chart and No. 60 on the Billboard Hot 100. Charlie Wilson’s smooth baritone vocals on the song helped the single become influential to contemporary R&B. The song has been sampled by Nas, Raekwon, Heavy D and many more. The Gap Band has made an unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.
