Mary J. Blige
Although the top half of this list has been filled with mostly newcomers to the R&B game, our next spot goes to that of the legendary, iconic, and timeless, Mary J. Blige. Standing in the limelight for over two decades, MJB’s longevity, consistency, and success in her career is enough to give thanks to – especially in a genre that’s ever changing.
Mary’s tenacity and open-mindedness in the realm of music has kept her relevant for longer than some of us have been alive. Following trends just to take them in a new lane and make them her own, the legendary vocalist is one that has given us her soul through her music for many years. Delivering the entire score for the hit movie “Think Like A Man Too,” Mary J’s artistry continues to elevate with every project she touches. Giving us something new with her talent in her upcoming album, The London Sessions, Mary’s diversity and willingness to evolve is extremely admirable and most worthy of an applause.
Thank you for this post! Today is not the easiest time for R&B artists and listeners but we gotta thank people that keep doing their magic and even pushing this genre forward.
I would also add to this list is Rochelle Jordan & JSMN
Nah, Turn up the list to 12 rather and include Chrisette Michele And Rochelle Jordan!
