BJ The Chicago Kid
Very seldom do you find a talented group of R&B singers that are truly that. While Luke James and Adrian Marcel have been doing an excellent job at keeping the authenticity of R&B alive, fellow newcomer BJ The Chicago Kid is following right along with them. Setting the tone in a slightly different manner, the young Chicago native is bringing the true essence of soul and grit back to the music! With an impressive writing resume and a sound that takes you back to your parent’s era of R&B/Soul music, BJ has that certain something that the game has been missing.
Not only has he been able to keep the genuineness of R&B, but he’s been able to mix a little bit of the Hip-Hop edge that former ‘90s singers implemented into their sound. His feature on Schoolboy Q’s hit single “Studio” is a perfect example of the aforementioned. Though his sound is still circulating through the masses, BJ has us overly thankful for his contributions to the industry this year, and greatly anticipating his Motown Records debut album.
Thank you for this post! Today is not the easiest time for R&B artists and listeners but we gotta thank people that keep doing their magic and even pushing this genre forward.
I would also add to this list is Rochelle Jordan & JSMN
Nah, Turn up the list to 12 rather and include Chrisette Michele And Rochelle Jordan!
