We are throwing it back today, but not too far. Each year at Grammy time, music legend Clive Davis hosts his annual pre-Grammy Gala, and we are taking it back to the 2006 event, where singer/actor Jamie Foxx performed a special version of his hit “Do What It Do.” This live performance version included R&B vocalist Tank on backgrounds, and featured an impromptu audience performance from powerhouse singer Fantasia. One word VOCALS!!!!
Jamie acknowledges some of the legends that were in attendance, such as Diana Ross and Babyface. He sings to Fantasia, “I’ll cook and clean; Babyface taught me what to do. Babyface wave your hand.” The energy, chemistry, and atmosphere in this room were simply amazing. Count on Foxx to cut up in a good way in such a formal setting. He later brought out Mario and Jodeci to sing as well!
“Some say that Hip-Hop killed the R&B singer but the record sales say he’s still alive. If you love R&B, if you love real music stand up,” said Foxx. “I’m a student too and I’m not ashamed to say R&B is alive.”
Enjoy the special throwback above!
