Last month, we shared the news about Janelle Monáe‘s new partnership with Epic Records to distribute her Wondaland Records imprint. The Atlanta-based custom label is home to new artists Roman GianArthur, Alex Belle and Isis Valentino of St. Beauty, Jidenna, and Nate Wonder and Chuck Lightening of Deep Cotton. Their first release, an EP called The Eephus, is due out in May.

The first single from the project is Jidenna’s groovy debut song “Classic Man,” and as the single is starting to grow at radio, Monáe and Jidenna paid a visit to ‘The Breakfast Club’ for an interview on Thursday morning. They opened up the chat with Jidenna giving a little background on himself and the inspiration for the song along with his personal style. Janelle went on to talk about the record label, new deal with L.A. Reid at Epic, the recording process for their collective EP, and much more.

She also spoke about the honor and importance of knowing that President Barack Obama and the First Lady listen to her music.
