Throwback Thursday: GUY – Goodbye Love

By

GUY is a R&B group most closely associated with the New Jack Swing style of the late ’80s and early ’90s. “Goodbye Love” is track number 9 on GUY’s self-titled double platinum debut album, which reached No. 27 on the Billboard 200 chart. The song chronicles the hardship faced from breaking up with someone you still love.

GUY was formed in Harlem, New York in 1987 by Teddy Riley, Aaron Hall, and Timmy Gatling. However, Gatling left after the recording of the album was completed and he was replaced by Hall’s younger brother Damion Hall. Guy have reformed periodically since their initial break-up, the first of which occurred in 1995. In 1999, Riley and the Hall brothers reunited to release their first album in nine years titled Guy III. Last year the group announced that they were reuniting once again!
