Twenty-five years after releasing her debut album, 200 millions albums sold worldwide, and 18 No. 1 singles later, Mariah Carey received her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her fans shut down Hollywood Blvd. to witness the pop diva etch her place in Hollywood history.
Looking glamorous in all black, Mariah joined her fans and twins, Moroccan and Monroe, at the ceremony on Wednesday (Aug. 5).
She received touching tributes from her friends including Epic Records chairman L.A. Reid, “Empire” creator Lee Daniels, BET executive Stephen Hill, and director Brett Ratner.
L.A. Reid praised his “musical wife” for her compassion. “This is my love letter to my favorite artist in the entire world,” he said. “You are the sweetest, kindest, most gentlest soul I have ever met in my life, and as your name is immortalized on this Walk of Fame for all of your success, it is my wish that you get two stars, one for you and one for your character.”
Lee Daniels, who cast Mariah in movies including Precious, also attested to her kindness. “She is the queen, she is the one. Her heart transcends her stardom,” he proclaimed. Daniels also revealed that Mariah will be appearing on the upcoming season of “Empire.”
But while it was all about Mariah, it was Dem Babies who stole the spotlight. Her four-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, took their turns on the mic and even crashed their mom’s photo.
A grateful Mariah thanked her friends and fans for their support. “I just want to thank all the fans for coming here today. I can’t thank you enough for being here with me, really,” she said. “You’re melting my heart, you’re making me cry. It’s a huge honor. It’s a childhood dream come true. It’s been a long time coming, so they say, and I’m very, very, very honored and very humbled and just so thankful to be here.”
