Fresh off the sneak peek of the cinematic video, August Alsina delivers his emotional new single, “Song Cry.” Produced by Brandon “Bam” Hodges – who has worked with both Chris Brown and Trey Songz – the introspective song finds August taking us on a walk through some dark times.
He touches on his relationship with his mother, thoughts of suicide, what he expected from his industry peers in light of all things going on in the world and more. Singing out, “I can’t hold back these, let me cry / They say a man ain’t supposed to cry / So I’ma let the song cry,” the song pulls from the classic Isley Brothers track “Tears” and of course, Jay Z’s 2002 hit, “Song Cry.”
Alsina’s anticipated sophomore album This Thing Called Life is set to be released later this year and will serve as the follow-up to 2014’s Testimony.
