Last week, Mario surprised us with his comeback single “I Need More,” and the announcement of his fifth album, Paradise Cove.
While in NYC promoting the new single, the R&B crooner stopped by Fuse TV for an interview where he revealed some intriguing details about the forthcoming album, which he described as “dark and sexy.”
The “Let Me Love You” singer has gone is various musical directions throughout his career, and his latest single features another unexpected sound as well, which touches on R&B’s influence from the trap sound.
According to Mario he is enjoying the mixed response from fans.
“A lot of the album is not that aggressive. There are songs that are more R&B-driven, but [for] the first single I wanted to do something that was fun, abstract, R&B/hip-hop type of record. That’s why I chose ‘I Need More,'” he explained. “I’m getting the reaction that I wanted: Some people are like, ‘That’s different, I don’t know…’ and they hit me two days later like, ‘Yo! I love it!’ And some people love it straight up top. I wanted to shock people and get that shock value.”
During the interview, Mario also revealed that he’s working on a music video to accompany the single that will showcase an unexpected side of himself.
