While on his “SUMMERS Tour,” Maxwell visited the Bay Area’s own 106KMEL, where his career initially launched, for an interview with Shay Diddy. With his upcoming album blackSUMMERS’night due out this Friday, the soulful crooner talked about the long-awaited project, Prince’s influence, his admiration for Beyoncé, and also teased an upcoming collabo with Mary J. Blige.
Maxwell went in depth about his hiatus with Shay, including talking about what he was doing during the time and what the process was in recording for the album.
Dedicating the album to Prince, Maxwell also explained how his sound has always been influenced by the “Purple Rain” singer, and revealed that he now has an urgency to want to put out more music faster due to the influence of Prince and Harry Belafonte.
He also talked about how his sound has evolved since the start of his career, while maintaining a classic, timeless sound. He even expressed his admiration for Beyoncé, comparing her work ethic to the late Michael Jackson.
