John Legend has been staying busy with television and film, his latest venture — executive producer on the film Southside With You.
In addition to his role on the business side, the R&B crooner has contributed a musical offering for the movie, with the song “Start.” The aptly titled song sums up the plot of the film, which is the story of President Barack Obama and First Lady, Michelle’s first date.
“I don’t know where the road leads / You don’t know if I’ll break your heart / We don’t know how the winds will blow / And we won’t know, we won’t go unless we start,” sings Legend over the piano track.
The film, which stars Parker Sawyers and Tika Sumpter as the future POTUS and FLOTUS, hit theaters today. The soundtrack, featuring Janet Jackson, Slick Rick, and Bill Withers, is also available now.
