While back in New York City on her “King and Queen of Hearts World Tour” with Maxwell, Mary J. Blige paid a visit to “Good Morning America” for a candid interview and powerful performance.

Backed by her band, the R&B icon delivered an emotionally-charged performance of her new breakup anthem “Thick of It,” which deals with her highly-publicized divorce from Kendu Isaacs.

The Jazmine Sullivan-penned song is the lead single from Mary’s upcoming album Strength of a Woman.

During Wednesday’s episode, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul also sat down with Robin Roberts and opened up about her separation from her husband of 12 years. “My heart is OK. I’m hanging in there,” she said. “No one wants to go through this. This is hard. I’m hanging in there.”

She provided more insight into what led to their breakup. “The breaking point was when I kept asking over and over and over again for respect and to be respected and it just seems like I was beating a dead horse and it seems like I was talking to a wall,” she said. “I just wasn’t getting it back. If I can’t get respect in the relationship, then I have to move on to save myself. That was the point where I’m like, I’m done. I just can’t do it any more.”

But her faith and family have helped her overcome the dark times. “What is getting me through is God, is prayer, is my family, people that love me, my fans.”

Isaacs is asking for $129,319 a month in spousal support.
