After saying she “quit” the music industry last year, SZA is ready to retun with new music for 2017. On Tuesday (Jan. 10), the TDE songstress debuted new tracks for fans and tastemakers at New York City’s NeueHouse.
One of those songs was a Travis Scott-assisted cut tentatively titled “Love Galore.” According to Billboard, Scott peppers the song with sexual innuendos, including “let me plant that seed inside ya.”
Another new cut that SZA — who said she had bronchitis this week — performed is the tentatively-titled “Drew Barrymore.” The songbird reportedly said it was inspired by the actress and her movies like Never Been Kissed and Poison Ivy. “I just imagine this being the soundtrack to one of those movies,” she said. “Cue Freddie Prinze, Jr.”
But more than just an ode to Barrymore, the song also appears to be reflective with lyrics like, “I get so lonely I forget what I’m worth / We get so lonely, we pretend that this works / I’m so ashamed of myself, I think I need therapy.”

Some of these new tracks could make SZA’s long-awaited project A, the follow-up to 2013’s S and 2014’s Z. In October, fans worried about whether the project would even arrive. “I actually quit,” she tweeted. “[TDE President Terrence “Punch” Henderson] can release my album if he ever feels like it. Y’all be blessed.”
In November, she seemed ready to move on from music, too. “I’ll probably just do something different, something visual, probably film,” she told Complex. “I’m really frustrated, and I’m kind of over it. I have a lot of anxiety and there’s a lot going on in my life.”
Despite that, she said she would finalize A. “I’m definitely committed to completing this,” she said. “And I think…we’ll take it from there.”
On Tuesday, SZA seemed to point the album delay blame back on herself, saying: “I’ve been taking long as f**k to make an album.”
While A awaits a release date, fans can see SZA debut a new single on Thursday night with her first performance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
