Thursday (March 23), marked the 13 anniversary of Usher‘s classic Diamond-selling album Confessions.
The album that many R&B fans herald as the last “classic” R&B album has inspired artists everywhere, and continues to do so. In a surprise move, soulful singer/songwriter BJ The Chicago Kid has released a mini EP in tribute to Usher’s pinnacle project.
Working with producers Jairus Mozee and Tubb Young to recreate three tracks, BJ covers the title song, along with a snippet of “Simple Things,” and a mashup of “Can U Handle It” and “Superstar.” The later being the longest and the clear standout. The Chicago native showcases a tender, soulful take on the two songs in a unique blend, and I don’t know if we can handle BJ’s stirring vocals! Too Good!
The two artists have a long-standing history as BJ use to serve as one of Usher’s background vocalists. During which a young BJ performed on “The Truth Tour,” the 2004 trek in support of Usher’s Confessions.
