August Alsina is opening up like never before.
While he returned with new music this year, and is prepping for the release of his third studio album, August Alsina has shared the first look at an emotional interview that he did with his friend, Jada Pinkett-Smith. The R&B singer formed a bound with the Smith’s a couple years ago, and they have embraced him very closely.
Fans of the singer will remember the scary moment when he collapsed and fell off stage during a 2014 concert in New York. The New Orleans native ended up in a coma for a few days, but he recovered with full strength and the report was that he suffered from dehydration.
However, now for the first time, August explains that he is often very sick due to a serious liver disease that has a big affect on his daily and professional life. In a clip from the sit-down talk with Jada, Alsina says: “I have a liver disease, where my auto-immune system is fighting against itself. The reality is that I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy.”
In addition to opening up about the heath issues with his liver, August shares some deeper insight into his emotional scares that he carries from the death of his older brother, growing up in a home where his stepfather was a drug addict, among other things.
Posting a look at the interview clip on Instagram, he went even deeper into detail about the sad truth about his disease and dealing with the reality. “Please excuse my defense mechanism in this clip… I’m sicker than ever & having a hard time accepting what I feel & what the Doctors are saying is most true,” he wrote. “After sitting down and talking with my fathers mother and sister… They explained to me that sickness & illness runs in my family. My father & grandfather both died of severe illness. ?? but they were FIGHTERS & that’s all that matters. ??✨✨✨ Just ride with me is all I ask.”
It’s unclear when the full interview will be released, but it looks like Jada Pinkett-Smith has some of her own breakthroughs that she shares with the cameras during their conversation. Check out the preview below, and stay tuned for the full interview.
