Mario knows pain, in fact the R&B singer just recently lost his mother to her long-standing trouble with addiction.
The crooner has been getting closer and closer to releasing his oft-delayed new album, but today he returns with the new single, “Pain Is The New Pleasure.”
A powerful anthemic ballad about struggle and strife, Mario experiments with vocal and audio effects to distort his voice and in a way blur the pursuit of happiness. On the verses, he addresses political and social issues, while touching on his own personal demons as well.
“Ain’t talk to my momma in a while / ‘Cause I got my own demons and damn it I’m tired of feelin that / I pray that one day I’ll get to hold ya,” he sings.
Mario recently decided to strap the album title Paradise Cove and change his new project to Cosmo 17. “I’m pulling from real experiences to make this project and its interpretation as raw as possible — musically,” he told Billboard. “Now, I’m at the place where my life and who I am as a man parallels with the sound and the music that you’re going to hear.”
