The people have spoken and some of R&B’s hottest acts are reigning supreme today, receiving top nominations at the upcoming 60th annual GRAMMY Awards.
Rap God JAY-Z is the at the top of the leader board with 8 overall nods, followed by Kendrick Lamar with 7. However, not far behind is Bruno Mars with 6; and Childish Gambino, SZA, and Khalid with 5 a piece.
The 24K Magic superstar looks to add more Grammy gold to his collection, with nominations for Album of the Year (24K Magic), Song of the Year (“That’s What I Like”), Record of the Year (“24K Magic”), Best R&B Performance (“That’s What I Like”), Best R&B Song (“That’s What I Like”), and Best R&B Album (24K Magic).
Childish Gambino’s hit single “Redbone” and acclaimed album Awaken, My Love! have earned the singer/rapper nominations for Album of the Year, Record of the Year (“Redbone”), Best R&B Song (“Redbone”), Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Redbone”), and Best Urban Contemporary Album.
First-time nominee SZA received five noms for Best New Artist, Best R&B Performance (“The Weekend”), Best R&B Song (“Supermodel”), Best Urban Contemporary Album (Ctrl), and Best Rap/Sung Performance (“Love Galore” featuring Travis Scott).
Fellow Grammy first-timer, Khalid also earns five Grammy noms including Best New Artist, Song of the Year (“1-800-273-8255” – Logic Featuring Alessia Cara & Khalid), Best R&B Song (“Location”), Best Urban Contemporary Album (American Teen), and Best Music Video (“1-800-273-8255” – Logic Featuring Alessia Cara & Khalid).
The 60th Annual Grammy Awards will air live from Madison Square Garden in New York on Sunday, January 28, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
