Hot off his 5 Grammy nominations, buzzing singer-songwriter Khalid unveils the music video for “Saved,” off his acclaimed debut album American Teen.
The David Hedman-directed video was shot on location in Mexico, and stars Australian Top Model, Duckie Thot as Khalid’s love interest. The 19-year-old crooner sings out to her from the balcony of his hotel room and a neon lit city street, reminiscing of their joyous times together.
The song was inspired by relationships in today’s digital era. “Everyone, including myself, we’re so wrapped up in this digital era,” Khalid previously told Genius. “Our phone is kind of our safety net. When your phone dies, you’re kind of fucked.” He continued: “The first time I wrote the song, and recorded it, it was with a friend of mine. He had a guitar, he was playing behind me, and I sung one take over the whole song. To me, that felt like my own voice memo. Every time I would listen to the song, I would try to listen to get over whatever problems or demons I was fighting inside.”
Next spring, Khalid will return to the road on “The Roxy Tour.” The singer’s third headlining tour will make stops in a number of North American cities including Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Philadelphia.
