New Video: PJ Morton – First Began

By

Love is in the air with PJ Morton‘s romantic testimony themed new music video for “First Began.”

The Erik Parker-directed visual for the opening song on his Grammy-nominated album Gumbo features cameos from actors and their spouses including Sterling K. Brown, Omari Hardwick, and Tamera Mowry. After sharing portions of their love experience, the video finds PJ at the piano with his leading lady.

“No one makes me feel the way you do inside,” he sings. “And I don’t know what I would do without you and that’s no lie.”

Time then appears to transition backwards as PJ’s own son and daughter portray their parents as children experiencing the innocence of young love. The video switches back and forth between PJ and his wife Kortni and the children, along with splices of the actors and their significant other in intimate moments.

“The song is just a classic love song about having to find the spark in love again,” PJ says. “And finding that spark usually can be found in the beginning, when you first fell in love. Anybody that has stood the test of time in a relationship has had to start a restart a few times. In the video, I just wanted to show multiple views of love and relationships…and to also show that real love can still exist and last the test of time.”

Over the past month, the Maroon 5 keyboardist and Solange music director has performed with The Roots on The Tonight Show, commenced the NBA’s celebratory MLK Day matchup with his rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” played Jimmy Kimmel Live with Maroon 5, and more.
