After getting deep in her ‘feelings’ on “Boo’d Up,” Ella Mai is ‘trippin’ over a lover on her much-anticipated followup single, “TRIP.”
The piano-laden mid-tempo finds the British songstress still in her bag of emotions and admitting to falling head-over-heels for a love that wasn’t really there. The catchy record is a cautionary tale but told from a place of healing where she’s able to love the lesson and personal growth.
“I put my feelings on safety / So I don’t go shooting where your heart be,” Mai sings. “Cause you take the bullet trying to save me / Then I’m left to deal with making you bleed.”
Along with the song, Ella shared a personal message to her fans thanking everyone for their support and explaining why she wanted to drop this song before heading out on her first-ever headlining tour. “Sometimes we misinterpret, sometimes we don’t understand, sometimes we make mistakes,” she emotes. “It doesn’t always make sense at the time but it’s always a life lesson. Awareness is key, my bad for trippin’ on you.”
