Eric Bellinger‘s breakout hit single “G.O.A.T.” has been a non-stop continued success for the R&B hitmaker, but it also displayed some of his rap skills. The Compton native has always been a purveyor of vocals and remaining true to authentic R&B, but this time the music spoke to him differently.
The goat yoga connesuer (yes that’s a real thing), recently explained to Genius that he had to have a serious conversation with himself if it was cool that so many artists are singing and rapping today. He says Drake’s doing it, but Lauryn Hill did it masterfully and showed everyone how it can be done.
For the “G.O.A.T. 2.0” remix to reached out to his homie and frequent collaborator Wale, and the rest is now hit history.
“I remember hitting Wale like, ‘I know we done this this and that, but I need you to get on this one, too,’” Eric tells Genius. “He was like, ‘Bro, send it over. Whatever you need, I got you.’ Boom, hopped on it, blacked out.”
