It’s finally here. T-Pain has been teasing his highly-anticipated track “Wake Up Dead” featuring Chris Brown for weeks, and it dropped Friday, April 24. The fellow superstars are undefeated when they team up, and this track is another heater on their record.
Inspired by a scene from Scary Movie 3, Pain said the new single has even more meaning because of his wife’s assistance. He posted on the gram: “@panpan2211 helped me write this, so this one super special to me.” He first teased the song by playing a snippet for fans during his iconic Verzuz Instagram live battle with Lil Jon earlier in April.
“Wake Up Dead” is an emotional track displaying, no pun intended, the pain he would feel if he lost his loved one. He powerfully emotes about his intense love for his lady, and would be nothing without her. The two sing on the chorus: “‘Cause I don’t wanna wake up dead / ‘Cause I don’t wanna turn up missin’ / But I can’t get you out of my head / Baby, I just needed you to listen.”
Breezy hops on with his own verse doing what he does best, crooning with equally passionate vocals.
This collaboration marks the seventh time these two jumped on a track together. The last time was in 2011 for T-Pain’s rEVOLVEr album on “Best Love Song” and “Look at Her Go.” But you also can’t forget “Freeze” and their hit collabs on Lil Mama’s “Shawty Get Loose” and Brown’s “Kiss Kiss.”
