Repping the South, Aspen Martin is a dynamic emerging artist looking to capture your attention with his new EP Everything or Nothing. The Georgia-based singer, songwriter, and rapper blends RnB vocals and bold hip hop in this comeback project. His style is often compared to artists like Ty Dolla $ign, Bryson Tiller, PND and Drake, and once you listen to the music, it’s not hard to hear the comparisons.
He puts that on display immediately with his lead-off track “I H8u.” He sings: “I think I hate you / I think I hate you / you got me doing too much / I’m craving out for your touch and I’m mad I can’t replace you” before spitting some infectious rhymes. Martin collaborated with producer CMPLX, whose production credits include Drake, Rich Homie Quan, and Roy Woods, on the first three tracks, which include “Can’t Relate” and “I Know.”
In this dynamic project, he explores a range of topics, including toxic relationships, the trials and tribulations that come with jumping into the spotlight, being “cut friends” with a lady, and paying homage to women.
This project is return for Martin who took a two year hiatus from music. He explains his time away, and the inspiration behind the EP.
“I took a year off back in 2018 to live life and experience new things, and during this time, I’ve experienced a lot of love, heartbreak, pain, joy, and in 2019 I dealt with betrayal, and a crazy comeuppance that kept me away for longer than planned,” he said.
“Throughout these two years, I kept recording countless music that has culminated in the six songs on this EP. I plan to add a few more songs to this for a bigger project in the summer, but in the meantime, I wanted this EP to give you an insight to what I was dealing with, during these 2 years.”
Before walking away, he made a name for himself with his debut singles “Get It” and “End Of Discussion.” His team said it helped garner nearly two million plays, allowing him to open up for Da Baby, Boosie Badazz, and Plies on top of performing at SXSW 2018.
