Brandy is hot on the promotional trail for her new single “Baby Mama.” With the release of the song’s official video, she has upped the ante. Inspired by Sammy Davis Jr’s “Rhythm of Life” performance in the 1969 film Sweet Charity, Brandy’s love of theatre and music collide in the Derek Blanks directed visual. Famed choreographer Frank Gatson handles the creative direction for the video. The new mother’s anthem is sure to get a boost from the fun, fresh, and colorful video.
The video stays true to the “Rhythm of Life” opening with Brandy and her dancers in an open warehouse surrounded by classic cars. Donning an array of colorful suits and jackets, Brandy looks as youthful as ever. As the chorus comes in, we see a new group of dancers enter as Brandy dances up a storm with her core group of dancers. The choreography is a unique fusion of contemporary jazz and hip-hop. Chance the Rapper’s cool demeanor during his appearance adds a fun juxtaposition to the rapid fire delivery of his verse. Although Brandy has been in the game over 25 years, this video makes it clear she is not resting on her legacy. She challenging herself to evolve as an artist and we look forward to all this new era has to bring.
