Kevin Ross is back and giving the man upstairs mad props on his new single “God Is A Genius.” Much like H.E.R, Kevin Ross is a shining light in today’s field of R&B artists. The multi-hyphenate star can sing, write and play piano. As a graduate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Kevin is what you’d consider an “artist’s artist.” In a field, of pretenders Kevin is the real deal, and has all the makings of an artist who will have career longevity. This is made evident in his brilliant new single.
Sonically, the song is light and breezy with a classic throwback vibe. Vocally, Kevin pairs his charismatic lead vocal with smooth, airy background vocals. Lyrically, Kevin thanks God for bringing him and his girl together. “God must be a genius / Or me and you wouldn’t be here / I know this is selfish, yeah / but I don’t believe in coincidence,” Kevin sings on the song’s catchy hook. When discussing the track, Kevin states “This record couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s starting to warm up outside and cities are slowly beginning to open up. Great vibes to bring us into our new normal.” The song definitely evokes the feeling of summer love.
