Universal Music Group has kicked off Women’s History month in a very big way. Ethiopia Habetmariam is promoted to CEO and Chairwoman of the iconic Motown Records.

According to the announcement, Ethiopia Habetmariam will be reporting directly to UMG Chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge. “Motown will have greater creative and commercial independence to advance its mission of artistic, social and entrepreneurial empowerment.”
Habetmariam has been with label since 2014 and oversaw the label’s relocation to Los Angeles from New York during that same year. Habtemariam has had a major impact and influence on the music industry with prior positions including president of urban music & co-head of creative at Universal Music Publishing Group.
