Before the 2026 Kickoff…Let’s run it back with Musiq Soulchild at The Roots Picnic”2025.
As we gear up for the kickoff of the 2026 “Roots Picnic,” we are taking a moment to reflect on one of last year’s unforgettable highlights — our exclusive interview with Philly’s own, the incomparable Musiq Soulchild.
In 2025, the iconic “Roots Picnic” returned to Philadelphia in a major way. Teaming up once again with Live Nation Urban, the festival brought music, art, culture, and unforgettable vibes to the Mann Music Center in Fairmount Park for an elevated two-day experience.
This year the beloved festival is leveling up in a major way, relocating to Philadelphia’s scenic Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park Saturday May 30th & Sunday, May 31st, 2026.
Last year’s star-studded lineup featured incredible performances from some of music’s biggest names, including Musiq Soulchild, who delivered a truly unforgettable set performing songs exclusively from his debut album. From beginning to end, the performance was pure nostalgia, soul, and artistry — reminding everyone exactly why his music continues to stand the test of time.
During the festival, ThisIsRnB’s host , Kadeja Wexler had the pleasure of sitting down with one of Philadelphia’s most influential and respected voices in R&B, Musiq Soulchild. In our conversation, he opened up about the unwavering love and support he’s received from fans throughout every chapter of his career — through the highs, lows, growth, and evolution of his creativity.
Musiq also shared insights about touring and expressed deep admiration for fellow R&B greats Joe and Eric Benét — two artists who have heavily inspired him through their music, artistry, longevity, professionalism, and dedication to maintaining their legacies. He spoke about the lessons he’s learned from watching their work ethic and craftsmanship, and how their influence helped shape his own musical journey.
