Trey Songz Scores First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200

How bittersweet it is, Trey Songz has finally scored his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart as Chapter V lands atop the list with 135,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Following suit to similar male R&B debuts this year from Chris Brown (Fortune 135,000) and Usher (Looking for Myself 128,000), and while hitting the top spot on the chart, similar to the aforementioned acts, seeing a large decrease from his past release, 2010s “Passion, Pain & Pleasure,” which debuted and peaked at No. 2 with 240,000. Something should be said for such close similarity in these releases, even Frank Ocean pulled in a similar 131k, of course that was just off of iTunes though. Is the buying public really this similar?

Trey has so far found success with two top 10 singles on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in “Heart Attack” (No. 3) and “2 Reasons” (No. 8). His latest release “Dive In,” is currently climbing, the video is expected to premiere very soon.

Did you pick up Chapter V yet? If so, what do you think of the project as a whole?

This album is awflul, this artist hasn’t shown any growth but instead has taken multiple steps backwards with this one. His worst album, not even up for debate.
