Throwback Thursday: Zhane – “Hey Mr. D.J.”

By

Zhané was a R&B/Hip Hop soul duo and a part of Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit collective group. “Hey Mr. D.J.” was the group’s debut single on their 1994 platinum debut album Pronounced Jah-Nay.

The song also featured a rap from Rottin Razkals member Fam and contains samples of Grover Washington Jr.’s “Knucklehead” and Michael Wycoff’s “Looking Up to You.”.  It peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was certified gold by the RIAA.

The video, like many ’90s videos, shows the duo enjoying a block party. “Hey Mr. D.J.” stands as one of the best R&B/dance hits of the ’90s. Jam on us today! Enjoy the video!
