Jennifer Hudson rose bright and early on Tuesday to help wake up New York City with some soulful sounds. Rocking a “Strong” T-shirt, the powerhouse diva took over Rockefeller Plaza for the “Today” concert series, and belted out “It’s Your World,” “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” and her brand new song “Dangerous” off her upcoming album JHUD, due out September 23.
“With this album, I feel as though you get a sense of my energy and that’s why we named it JHUD because you’re getting to know the girl and not just the public persona of Jennifer Hudson,” she said. “I want you to know the person.”
She worked with Timbaland and Pharrell on her third LP, which is a departure from her usual big ballads. “That’s all a part of artistry, is reinventing yourself,” she explained. “I don’t believe in being boxed in, or limits.”
In addition to her career, the Oscar and Grammy winner is busy being a mother to her five-year-old son David, who starts kindergarten this week. “I feel like I just had him!” she said.
Watch JHUD shut down the Plaza with her powerful pipes below:
I think she should lose the “90s hype girl” look and work with better producers, especially ones repping Chicago like R. Kelly. Her album is going to flop. The reason no one is checking for her is her lackluster singles. I do like her new song with R. Kelly so I hope it charts better than those first two flop singles. Also, she should ditch the struggle face and moisturize more around those frown lines. She is too talented of a singer to be going on stage wearing mom jeans and singing wack songs.
Can’t wait for the album!
