As previously reported, R&B starlet Brandy is getting ready to storm Broadway for the first time, starring as Roxie Hart in CHICAGO.

Kicking off on April 28 the award winning singer/actress will play an 8-week limited engagement at the Ambassador Theatre in NYC through Sunday, June 21.

Brandy has now given fans an early look at her transformation into Roxie with a new interview on the role for Vanity Fair.

“Roxie is really tough, but she’s really sweet. And I feel like I’m the same way. I can be really tough, and stand up for myself and speak my mind, and then I’ll bake you a cookie,” she told VF, laughing.

Brandy has been vigorously training for the role too, including playing a lot of tennis and boxing. “I’ve had experience acting in front of an audience,” she told us, “but nothing where it’s live every single night. It’s completely different from anything I’ve ever done. And I still have no idea how it feels because I haven’t done the show yet! It’s all in my imagination.”

Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.

Tickets for Chicago are available through Telecharge.com, by calling 212-239-6200, and in person at the Ambassador Theatre (219 W. 49th St.; New York, NY) box office.
