August Alsina sets an emotional tone for his forthcoming sophomore album This Thing Called Life with a trailer for his upcoming single “Song Cry.”
In the clip, which he co-directed with his frequent collaborator Payne Lindsey, Alsina narrates with a deep personal poem, “There’s so much pain that lies within my eyes, like my brothers tragic demise. These tears I just can’t hide.”
A woman’s bloodcurdling cry can be heard alongside images of protests in Ferguson and footage of August fainting onstage. The clip concludes with a snippet of “Song Cry,” which is produced by Brandon “Bam” Hodge.
This Thing Called Life is due out later this year via NNTME/Def Jam Records.
