Frank Ocean has taken over the past few days of the music world with the surprise release of his visual album Endless, and official sophomore album Blonde. In between releasing Endless and the surprise drop of Blonde, the singer-songwriter gave some very lucky fans in select cities the opportunity to get their hands on his long-awaited ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ magazine, along with a physical copy of the Blonde album.
On Saturday (Aug. 20) Ocean opened up four pop-up shops in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and London. According to reports on Twitter, customers were given one free copy of the Boys Don’t Cry magazine, which also included a copy of the album. The mag, which comes wrapped in a silver packaging, reportedly features writing contributions from Kanye West, Nabil Elderkin, Viviane Sassen, Tom Sachs and others.
For many Ocean fans the 4 years since the release of 2012’s channel ORANGE have felt like an eternity without the release of his next album. Now that the project has finally arrived, Frank took to his Tumblr page to thank fans for their unwavering support. “I had the time of my life making all of this. Thank you all,” he wrote. “Especially those of you who never let me forget I had to finish. Which is basically every one of ya’ll. Haha. Love You.”
