Maxwell has finally released a new visual from his acclaimed 2016 album blackSUMMERS’night. The R&B crooner has partnered with streaming service TIDAL to premiere the video for his current single “Gods,” which he originally teased for a couple years before the album was eventually released last summer.
Filmed at various locations in Los Angeles, the Philip Andelman-directed video uses pink neon to accent a lit-up City of Angels as Maxwell casually drives through the night in a white 1982 Lamborghini.
Explaining the video’s concept, Maxwell tells Billboard, “Inspiration stemmed from having an experience of sort of seeing the spiritual parallel universe — that which can’t be seen. Art is subjective, visions evolve and I want fans to interpret the video on their own. I hope they enjoy it.”
Last year, Maxwell toured extensively across North America and Europe in promotion of blackSUMMERS’night, and he has no plans of slowing down this year. The crooner has announced the dates of a headlining arena tour, which will kick off May 23 in Nashville, and travel to smaller cities including Virginia Beach, Baton Rouge, Columbia, SC and more through June. Singers Ledisi and Leela James are set to join Max on select dates, while Common has also been confirmed for the two opening shows.
TIDAL members will get access to a ticket pre-sale tomorrow (March 28) at 10am local time, and public sale starts Friday (March 31) at 10am local times.
