Last year, Tank released the sequel to his acclaimed album Sex, Love & Pain. In 2017, the R&B General is planning to go ‘Savage‘ on us.
Releasing his new single “When We” last month, the singer/songwriter caters to the freaky side of love with the provocative sex jam. Joining all the festivities at this year’s ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans, Tank was ready and open to talk to ThisisRnB‘s own Ni’Kesia Pannell about the new single and upcoming album.
“We are savagely fighting for this space, we are aggressively injecting love back into the community,” said Tank. “I’m real happy about it. I’m happy that we are being aggressive, I’m happy that we are fighting, I’m happy that love has an army. Hate has one for sure, we see it everyday in our comments on Instagram and Twitter. But we gonna fight back, and ‘Savage’ is doing just that.”
In addition to discussing his new body-of-work, the R&B star told us that if he could have written any record by another artist, it would have been “Climax” by Usher. Sharing his love for song, he said, “At the moment that they were writing and producing that record, there was nothing better being made … Universally in the world…no one was making anything better.”
Tank also told us who his dream, all-star collaboration would be, if he could put himself and three other artists–dead or alive, on a song together.
Savage, which includes features from Trey Songz, Ludacris, and J. Valentine, is due out this coming September. Check out the interview above.
