Fresh off last week’s debut of their clever breakup ballad “Favor,” VanJess quickly return with the new single “Through Enough.” Reclaiming their time, they’re not thirsty for new baes. They’re free from relationship drama, and that’s how the sister duo plans to keep it. Featuring rapper GoldLink—who’s creating his own buzz—the snappy groove is infused with euphoric synths and pulsating bass. It’s an alluring blend of R&B and Dance. The Nigerian-American sisters, comprised of Ivana and Jessica Nwokike, evoke a hypnotic vibe reminiscent of Les Nubians.
Their synchronous harmony demands reverence as they sing, “My heart ain’t makin’ it though … I gotta set the rules … Don’t take me ransom babe / I’ve been through enough, through enough out here / Need more than action babe / I’ve been through enough out here.” GoldLink’s edgy flow lends a welcome complement as he commands the track with brash confidence. “I got a big ego like Beyoncé / And I should pray a lil harder like the church say / I got verses always gotta curse in / Killing rappers I should start by driving hearses,” he raps.
Produced by Lophiile (H.E.R., GoldLink), the single was exclusively premiered by Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats1 and will be included on an upcoming episode of HBO’s Insecure. VanJess made a name for themselves through YouTube covers, from which they have garnered over 35 million views. They will release their forthcoming LP later this fall.
