Kehlani celebrated the holidays with her annual “Tsunami Christmas” concert at Oakland’s Fox Theater on Sunday (Dec. 10).
Performing a series of tracks from her debut album SweetSexySavage and Grammy-nominated mixtape You Should Be Here, Lani lit up the hometown stage with “I Wanna Be,” “Undercover,” “You Should Be Here,” and “The Way.” While the livestreamed show featured neon lights and back up dancers, the Tsunami Mob leader put all the frills to the side for a mellow performance of “Honey” with crowd participation.
“Thank you for selling this show out like y’all do every fucking time,” she said to roaring applause. “I gotta say hi to everybody watching at home on TIDAL. Hey, y’all!”
Midway through the show, 6LACK showed up to perform hits like “PRBLMS,” earning acclaim from the woman of the hour. With 6LACK blushing on stage, Kehlani celebrated his skills. “I love you,” she said. “Thank you so much for doing this.”
Back to her set, Lani continued with bangers like “Distraction,” “Everything Is Yours,” and “Personal,” shimmying across the stage with confidence. Finally, she brought out “mini tsunamis” for a special rendition of “CRZY,” where she tried to clean up the expletives.
Baelani also served up a cover of Tamia’s “So Into You” for the Oakland crowd. “You guys said you grew up on R&B music,” she said. “It’s cool. We all got our genres. Can you help me cover a song? It’s a song I grew up listening to, which I love.”
