Beyoncé Breaks Spotify Record as ‘4’ Hits a Billion Streams

By

The Queen continues to reign.

This week, Beyoncé broke yet another record as her popular album 4 (2011) hit a billion streams on Spotify. The accomplishment makes the “Formation” hitmaker the first female artist to have three of their albums surpass one billion listens on the popular streaming platform. In doing so, 4 joins 2008’s I Am… Sasha Fierce and 2013’s self-titled BEYONCÉ.

The later was kept off Spotify for nearly a year in favor of her partnership with TIDAL, which still has exclusive rights on her last album Lemonade.

On Spotify, 4‘s most popular tracks include “Run the World (Girls)” and “Love On Top,” which together account for over 400 million streams. “Love on Top” also topped the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for seven consecutive weeks.

Beyoncé is the only musician to have had their first six albums debut at Number 1 in the U.S. on the Billboard 200 chart. Her fourth studio album (4) was released on June 24, 2011 led by the anthemic single “Run the World (Girls)” and emotional mid-tempo ballad “Best Thing I Never Had.” The album boasts production and songwriting from The-Dream, Tricky Stewart, Shea Taylor, Frank Ocean, Babyface, Jeff Bhasker, Kanye West, Ryan Tedder and more.

As it stands, Beyoncé has over a whopping 31 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
