Before kicking off her “Ultraviolet Spring Tour” on March 1, Justine Skye releases her newest single “Know Myself” featuring Louisville artist, Vory.
The single surfaces less than a month after the release of her debut album Ultraviolet, which gives listeners the impression that Skye’s musical focus is at an all time high and is as polished as ever since her extra purply glossed, teenage Tumblr days.
“Know Myself” is a downtempo afrobeat number paced by smooth bass pickings and an ear-pleasing melody dictated by no more than a handful of chords. The duet is sung from each of their respective, contentious corners as Vory sings from the familiar “don’t-hate-the-player, hate-the-game” point of view.
“I’m stuck in my ways and it’s all because of women,” he sing-raps. “Tried to steal my own mind away for meditation / We been through it all girl but still we livin’ / You tried to steal my own heart away, I know you feel me.”
But Skye is ultimately in command of the narrative: “I took my time away to let you know it / For you I did all these things, so I don’t need to show it,” sings the Roc Nation starlet. “I try, I try everything / But you claim you wasn’t ready … Bye bye, baby you lost it / Switch sides my home is cold and crazy / And I got nothing left to say.”
Give a listen to this new musical teaser before Skye comes to a major city near you.
