Fans of Ro James are patiently waiting for his ‘Mirrors‘ EP, the expected follow-up to March’s ‘Smoke.’ In the meantime, the soul-stirring crooner gifts fans a little something special with the ‘raw’ song “Excuse Me.” Taking to his Soundcloud page to share the track, which isn’t finalized, Ro pulls from some throwback inspirations for the smoothed out, vibey R&B jam.
A nighttime ride-out comes to mind with the glimmering, airy synths and electric guitar licks. The “Permission” singer confronts a lover for why she is harboring ill-feelings over an old issue, causing a rift in their relationship.
“You had it easy but you just couldn’t play your part,” sings Ro James. “Our heart was starving while you focused on so many parts / Other than love / That’s way too old to be acting up / So excuse me, what’s your problem? / Why you so mad and crazy babe?”
Ro James is hot off “The R&B Tour” with BJ The Chicago Kid, and is currently prepping for the release of his sophomore album, which is due out later this year. Take a listen to “Excuse Me” below.
