Staff Pick Of The Month: Chloe x Halle – “Who Knew”

By

Every second Tuesday of the month, a member of the ThisIsRnB staff will supply you with a song that — to them — deserves the spotlight for the moment. Whether it’s a release that didn’t get the exposure that it needed over the last few months or just a track that we keep in heavy rotation, each Staff Pick of the Month will give you the spirit of R&B that you’ve so desperately needed. — NP

Over the last few years, songbird sisters Chloe x Halle have forged a name for themselves in the entertainment world. Released only a few short months ago, we’ve had their summer airy hit “Who Knewon heavy rotation from the moment we heard it. And if you listen closely, you’ll see just why.

Delivering a bit of Queen Bey’s influence in their sound — which just gives the “for lovers” track extra seductiveness — the Atlanta born angelic voices really make you reflect on your own encounters with friends that became more. Reminiscing on the lyrics, the scenario becomes all too familiar because we’ve all been there with a friend and experienced that moment when the lines became blurred and hazy. It’s in those moments that you think: “who knew” we would be here, in this moment.

The visual, which was released in July, channels the late ‘80s and early ‘90s with the creative direction and fashion choices throughout. Ranging from Sister Sledge to The Pointer Sisters, the dynamic duo threw in a few inspirational touches and I love the way this simple, yet lovable video turned out. The song, paired with this awesome video, proves that the ladies have done it yet again and that Grammy-nominated pair will keep our summer going long after its ended!

Check out the “Who Knew” video + stream the song below and if you happened to miss their spectacular Aretha Franklin tribute performance singing “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” you can catch that, too.
