What You May Have Missed

By

With the constant release of R&B music, it’s sometime difficult to stay updated on everything that comes out. And with summer on its way out of the door and your weekend probably filled with nothing but music to turn up to, we know that making time to catch up on R&B isn’t perhaps the first thing on your list for a long holiday weekend.

Although we’re always here to give you day-by-day updates, we figured giving you a recap of some of the best R&B tracks and moments from weekend’s past (and sometimes a little before) at the top of each week is a great way for you to hear all the good stuff in one place.

Here’s what you may have missed while rollin’ with the homies this weekend:

Brother duo Blaq Tuxedo dropped the video to their Afrobeat single “1AM Watermelon.”

Fan-favorite track “1AM Watermelon” finally got a visual to accompany it and it’s just as flavorful as the song itself. Directed by Swagga BOB and Anthony Markus, the video is topped with a fitting filter and filled with Black beauties to deliver African native moves; a nod to the Afrobeats sound delivered on the track. And while the Blaq Tuxedo (formerly known as D&D) visual was released a little before this weekend, we had to give it a little shine.

“1 AM Watermelon” is found on the group’s self-titled album, which dropped back in August.

H.E.R.’s new project, “I Used to Know Her,” isn’t really new, but it’s a good holdover.

Fans of the songstress may be ready to hear the debut album already, but H.E.R. isn’t quite ready to push it out. Combining 2018’s two “I Used To Know Her” EPs to offer a 19-track “holdover” LP, fans of the projects can now listen to all of their favorite tracks on on album. And while there is one new single found on there — “Something Keeps Pulling Me Back” — the single she debuted during her 2019 MTV Video Music Awards performance, “Anti,” is missing.

Here’s to hoping that the real album is released soon!

J.Howell’s new project “RedRoom” will give you all the late night vibes you’ve been craving.

Featuring nine original tracks, R&B crooner J.Howell‘s release of “RedRoom” is a mix of romance, temptation, and lust all in one. The project includes previously releases tracks “Love You In The Morning (L.U.I.M.)” and “Talk” – both released earlier this year. Other standout tracks include “Faithful” and the sultry “Somethin About Ya.”

The Bonfyre also released the 6lack-assisted visual to the popular “U Say.”

If you’re not familiar with who The Bonfyre is, you may want to get there. Releasing the highly anticipated video for her single “U Say,” which features 6lack, the two talented singers set things on fire as viewers catch this creative visual interpretation of how they feel. And though we’re really not sure how we missed this a few days ago, we’re glad we ran across it now.

Catch The Bonfyre on “The Sketchbook Tour” alongside Fantasia this fall.

New artist Dreamadai dropped her single, “Mackin & Hangin.”

Sultry songstress Dreamadai gave us good vibes this weekend as she released her first single of the year, “Mackin & Hangin.” A perfect addition to your “Girls Night Out” playlist, the song hears Dream ready to take over the night with her friends to get rid of thoughts about her ex-lover. The track serves as a follow-up to 2018’s “Lil Sumn” and the Kodie Shane-featured “Back of My Pocket.”

Toronto artist Meshae dropped a new joint titled “Kick It.”

Although you may not be familiar with Toronto songstress Meshae, her new single “Kick It” is worth a quick listen. Dropping this past weekend, the catchy single is backed by guitars and fronted by the young beauties simple yet airy lyrics.
