JoJo has been open about her personal battles with self-acceptance in the past, but on “Man” she is speaking from a place of peace, love and wellness. She recognizes her worth and won’t settle for anyone who can’t love her the way she loves herself.
Vocally, the song finds JoJo demonstrating a great deal of restraint until the end. Fear not, this approach actually enhances the experience as JoJo instead relies on phrasing and vocal nuance to bring the song’s autobiographical lyrics to life. For the video, JoJo keeps it simple and fun. One of the standout scenes shows JoJo keeping it sexy in all red set up. She is shown performing sexy choreography that show her in a light fans have yet to see onscreen.
