Rising R&B star Amy J, is back with her new single “Streets.” Despite COVID-19, the multi-hyphenate star has been quite busy this year. For those not in the know, Amy J is a well-sought after celebrity stylist in the Atlanta area. Her styling work has been gracing magazines and television screens all year. However, that has derailed her focus from her first love, music. Last year, Amy J blessed us with the girl-gang anthem “Me and Mine” featuring Bambi, but this time around she is showing a bit more vulnerability as she sings to an inattentive lover.
“Streets don’t love you like I do” she sings over the guitar driven trap beat. The song finds Amy J pleading with her distracted lover to recognize the prize he has in her. Melodically, the song cleverly incorporates a brief interpolation of the J. Holiday classic, “Suffocate.” Like fellow ATL artist TLC, Amy J’s fashion and visuals are just as critical to her artistry as her sound. When it comes to this video’s fashion, she does not disappointment. Donning an array of custom looks, the star easily blends street appeal with high fashion aesthetics. Visually, the creative video finds Amy J playing herself in multiple set ups that reveal themselves as the video progresses. This song shows that Amy J has versatility as an artist and has us amped to hear more from the talented star.
