We all deserve a safe space to be ourselves and vibe with like minds. In the official music video for “Unbothered” by LIVt, Black women of various shades and shapes kiki while spreading joyful magic. Produced by Shayhan and directed by Justin Jeffers and Abdul Kassamali the visuals begin with a flashback to the good times we took for granted, pre-COVID-19. Set against a bass-heavy jazz groove, the images include a lit party scene filmed right before quarantine kicked in. “I wanted to create something that centered us, I wanted to put us in a space that celebrated us … being our fucking selves,” Seattle singer-songwriter LIVt née Olivia Thomas explains during the intro.
While singing and later rapping, LIVt shelters in place, makes music and adjusts to the new normal of endless Zoom calls. Despite dual pandemics of the coronavirus and racial unrest, “Unbothered” reflects freedom from bias, shame and defeat. It’s a permission slip to enjoy an unapologetic life.
Livt’s new EP, Flowers In The Void is due to drop next month.
