We are still excited about the epic Verzuz battle (more of a “love-fest”) that happened between two legends, Icons, luminaries; Gladys Knight and Pattie LaBelle Sunday night September 13, 2020 with well over half a million viewers tuned in.
The storied musical careers of the “Empress of Soul” Ms. Knight“ and the Godmother Of Soul” Ms. Patti LaBelle , affectionately known as ‘our aunties” was on full display with R&B, Soul, Pop and Gospel. What a gift they gave us with their music and warm memories they shared. Having known each other all of their musical careers, this was an absolute love-fest of sisterhood on full display with high praise and genuine respect for each other.
During the exuberant live stream Verzuz, the multi Grammy winning Legends performed 35 songs including two versions of Ms. Knight’s ‘Midnight Train to Georgia”. Ms. Knight and Ms. LaBelle were dressed to impress, as were their voices, which they showcased throughout the evening. Going back and forth with their respective musical catalogues, each knowing the others just as well as her own.
The night was even more magical when fellow luminary “sister-friend”, Ms. Dionne Warwick stepped on the stage and the trio sang their heart-warming song ”That’s What Friends Are For.” We are sure there wasn’t a dry eye to be found. We still have goose bumps just thinking of that performance and the night overall.
A big Thank you to Ms. Knight and Ms. LaBelle for sharing humor, wisdom, love and most of all their musical gifts with the world. What true gems and blessings these women are!
