Ne-Yo Turned Down MLK Role For New Album & Image

By

Ne-Yo has been growing as an actor, and faired well with his recent roles in Red Tails and Battle: Los Angeles.  The R&B star has now revealed in an interview with British paper the Sunday Mirror, that he was offered the opportunity to play Martin Luther King, Jr. in a new film … but he had to turn the role down because it would require him to gain 30 pounds, and was going to interfere with the release plans for forthcoming album R.E.D., and of course the new muscular image he has been working so hard for would be no more…

“I definitely want to do more acting but it’s got to make sense with the music, said Ne-Yo. “I recently had to turn down an amazing opportunity to be in a movie playing Martin Luther King. They wanted to start shooting at the time my album R.E.D. comes out and wanted me to gain 30 pounds, so I couldn’t do it. I’m kicking myself but acting can’t take the place of my music. Plus, I’ve been killing myself in the gym for months preparing for this album because I wanted a complete makeover.”

The hitmakers new effort R.E.D. (Realizing Every Dream) will hit stores September 18, but now we are curious … What movie is in the works about or for a role of Martin Luther King, Jr??
