Jaheim – “What She Really Means”
Jaheim gives all the secrets on “What She Really Means” when relationships get rocky. “She’s never going to give you the map to her heart, she’s never going to show you the place where to start,” sings the R&B veteran. Love can often be a mystery, but hopefully after listening to this tune things will become a little clearer.
K. Michelle – “Sometimes”
K. Michelle’s hard work finally paid off in 2013. Her debut album Rebellious Soul debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and earned her a hit single with “V.S.O.P.,” which reached the top 5. While some may still be warming up to the Memphis firecracker, after you listen to “Sometimes,” you’ll understand why a long career is in store for the songstress.
Robert Glasper Experiment feat. Marsha Ambrosius – “Trust”
Musician and producer Robert Glasper without a doubt delivered one of the most solid albums of the year. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but “Trust” is truly a standout with the sultry vocals of Marsha Ambrosius. “Let your guard down just lay it on the table, I’m willing and able to try,” sings Marsha. In this game called love it’s hard to trust again when we’ve been hurt, but this song will lead you to healing.
TGT – “Weekend Love”
Friday, Saturday and Sunday tend to be everyone’s favorite days of the week right, well TGT made that very clear on this sexy song. Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank all deliver on their verses, and together with tight harmonies they’re a force.
Ledisi – “I Blame You”
Love and happiness is what Ledisi delivered on her comeback single, and we thank her! Teaming up once again with Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony, who are responsible for her hit “Pieces of Me,” gave Ledisi a head bopping and finger snapping single to lead her new album ‘The Truth‘ due in February 2014.
John Legend – “Save the Night”
With the release of his new album Love in the Future, John Legend went back to his roots and delivered quality material such as this song. “I’m not one man band, I want a singing duet, you and me would sound much better,” sings Legend. When he is in his element he truly shines.
**Bonus: Tinashe – “Just A Taste”
Tinashe, the 20-year-old songstress from LA, who recently released her 13-song mixtape ‘Black Water,’ gave us a real gem with “Just A Taste.” The combination of these sensual lyrics on top of one of the best guitar riffs of all time – “Anniversary” – makes this the definition of a song not to miss. -B.A.
